Why it’s important and how often you should exfoliate your skin

Over 2/3 of women skip exfoliation as part of their routine. The exfoliation process is quite important for good-looking and firm skin. This article aims to show you why it is important to exfoliate your skin regularly, how often you should do it, and what the benefits of regular exfoliation are.

1. What is skin exfoliation?

The process of exfoliation is when a peeling product is used on the face or body to remove dry and dead skin. The human body removes dead skin every 30 days naturally, and this is how new healthy cells appear. Peeling speeds up this process, leaving the skin soft and fresh.

2. Why is it important to exfoliate?

Over time, the natural process of shedding dead skin slows down and it accumulates on the surface of our skin. This can lead to problems like acne, clogged pores, dry skin, and blackheads. Peeling removes dead and dry skin, allowing new cells to be generated more quickly.

3. What exfoliating products you can use

There are several types of exfoliating products. Depending on your skin type and sensitivity, you can choose the most suitable method. Among the

often preferred are chemical peeling products, there are different types with different intensities, or face scrub, a product with a granular formula that does not scratch or hurt the face. In addition to those for complete exfoliation of the skin, you can use a pumice stone, an exfoliating bath sponge, or an electric brush for cleaning/exfoliating.

4. How often should you exfoliate?

Depending on your skin type and how sensitive or dry it is, this number changes. If you have more sensitive skin, it is good to exfoliate 1-2 times a week, and for more problematic and oily skin, peeling is recommended 2 to 3 times a week. The method of exfoliation and the strength of the product are also important. The important thing in determining the frequency of peeling is how the skin reacts if it gets red and irritated – you need to increase the interval between exfoliations.

5. The right way to exfoliate

Gentleness is key when exfoliating. Strong pressure and lots of rubbing can break down the skin’s natural barrier and irritate the new cells. Frequent exfoliation strips away the natural oils found in the skin and can lead to more dryness. Use gentle circular motions when applying the exfoliating

product without applying too much pressure for 20-30 seconds. Then wash with warm water and apply a hydrating product for an even more radiant effect.

6. Benefits of exfoliation

Besides removing dead skin, the benefits of exfoliation are numerous. This process unclogs pores, reduces the appearance of blackheads, and removes scars from wounds and acne. Visually renews the appearance of the skin.

Improves skin hydration level. As dead skin accumulates, it becomes more difficult for moisturizing cosmetics to absorb. Dead and dry cells do not allow the skin to absorb the moisturizing product well. Through peeling, the application of moisturizing cream will become more effective and the effect will be even more visible and fast.

In addition to the moisturizing cream, exfoliation helps faster and better absorption of all the cosmetic products you apply to the skin. Newly formed cells predispose to a more efficient result of the cosmetics you

use, regardless of whether it is for the body or for the face.

Evening out the tone of the face may sound like a difficult task, but straight peeling evens out the colors of the face by actively fighting against hyperpigmentation and scars from burns and wounds. The leveling process takes time, but the effect, thanks to the peeling, is definitely there.

The circular movements with which the exfoliant is applied improve blood circulation. The effect lies in brighter and tighter skin, it also reduces the appearance of cellulite and stimulates collagen production.
