What is the Difference Between Cannabis Sativa Oil, and CBD and THC?

There’s a lot of information in the news today about Cannabis Sativa Oil, CBD and THC. Often used interchangeably, these actually refer to very different things in practice.

When it Comes to Cannabis Sativa Oil?

Cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil is extracted from the seeds of legal Cannabis sativa (hemp) plants that produce less than 0.3% THC.

Cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil is extracted by cold pressing the seeds to separate the seed’s oil from the seed’s protein.

Cold pressing is a safe extraction method that doesn’t involve chemicals and preserves the nutrient content of the seed.

What’s the difference between Cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil & other extracts?

Cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil is an entirely different substance than CBD oil, cannabis oil, hemp oil and any other extracts derived from the stalks, leaves and/or flowers of Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plants. Those parts of the plant contain cannabinoids like CBD and THC, whereas the seeds do not have naturally-occurring CBD or THC.

To keep it short: THC is the psychoactive part of cannabis while CBD is the opposite which, in short, means that people are not stimulated by it in the same way as the body is with THC. From a medical standpoint, both of them interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) but, again, in markedly different ways.

For example, CBD is typically used to alleviate pain from conditions such as arthritis and multiple sclerosis due to its ability to bond with your body’s cannabinoid receptors.

There are also reports of a general wellness benefit to using CBD including mental wellbeing and helping combat anxiety and insomnia, among others.

THC, on the other hand, is used recreationally and medicinally with the latter noting the plant’s ability to relieve pain and anxiety. It is also frequently used to treat insomnia, constipation, and nausea.

There is also a much stricter regulatory regime associated with medical THC than there is with CBD. This is, again, due to THC’s psychoactive element.

Is Cannabis Sativa Oil seed oil safe?

Yes, hemp seed oil is completely safe. Because it’s derived from special plants that don’t contain cannabinoids like CBD or THC, hemp oil has no psychoactive effects and is totally legal.
